Sailing Cycles are recumbent trikes converted into road and street sailing machines that can be used to ride with the wind as well as to pedal against the wind. Riding the wind is absolutely wonderful!
Windsurfing sails and rigs are adapted to recumbent tricycles to use the wind to propel the trikes on paved surfaces. When the winds are good, these sailing cycles can reach highway speeds on roads and easily sail at city speeds within corporation limits.
The ride can be thrilling! Moving at wind speed can be almost silent and you can hear for miles while travelling at speeds that are keeping up with traffic...just coasting with the wind. Sailing at an angle to the wind allows you to sail faster than the wind because there is nearly zero rolling resistance.
Twenty four gears can be chosen from to allow you to pedal into the wind when needed. Optional choices of numbers of gears are available.
Skates can be attached to the wheels in the winter to allow the Sailing Cycles to sail on frozen ponds and lakes as ice boats.
Various sizes of sails can be used. Beginners use 3.5 Meter Sails.
Advertising can be printed onto the sails to act as "rolling billboards".
